Assistant Accountant (Finance)



JOB SUMMARY:

As an Assistant Accountant you are required to report and record sales, prepare deposits and collaborate with head of Finance (head accountant/financial controller) to support various accounting projects and activities on a daily basis. You are required generally to correct, process and reconcile a wide variety of accounting documents such as invoices, departmental billings, employee reimbursements, cash receipts, vendor statements, and vouchers; review and record financial information; prepare and process documents to disburse funds, make deposits and prepare reports; compile and review information for accuracy; and maintain records. You are further required to perform work by applying knowledge of accounting terminology and using spreadsheets and/or automated accounting systems.

General Responsibilities

  • Prepare and verify daily accounting reports, accumulate and compile monthly reports of the same and complete corrective data-entry in the accounts data that you work with.

  • Provide assistance to your supervisors in preparing financial statements, budget and audit preparation as assigned according to company policies.

  • Check for miscalculations/misapplications in your area of accounting work/data and report errors to your supervisors for corrections and reconciliation.

  • Processes payments and documents such as invoices, journal vouchers, employee reimbursements, statements and post financial data to appropriate accounts in an automated accounting system related to your area of work according to instructions or company policy.

  • Ensure you enter, update, and accumulate accounting data and review it before it is used as on line-transaction by the management to the authorized bank through the authorized employee.

  • Design, prepare, and maintain spreadsheets using basic mathematical calculations and also review new procedures, manuals, and system enhancements of accounting compared to our existing ones and suggest revisions to management.




Desired Competencies:

  • Computer literate especially with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality of company and employee records and information

  • Have knowledge of and able to use accounting Principles and Practices in compliance with guidelines established nationally.

  • Ability to understand and apply with current accounting guidelines, system updates and revisions, and policy changes

  • Ability to compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness.

  • Ability to determine and set work priorities in order to meet schedules and deadlines and ability to detect errors in your work area.

  • Ability to type, communicate effectively and operate standard accounting office equipment

  • Ensure you follow Company Policy.

  • Ensure that all monthly statutory payments are made on time like SDL, NSSF, PAYE withholding tax, rent tax, services levy and VAT, corporate tax and all other types of taxes the company needs to comply with

  • Report any software breakdown in any machine that you are using for the smooth running of the company. Ensure that you inquire of any maintenance of the same to avoid break down and loss to the company.

  • You will be responsible for company loss or penalties like fines that will come up due to your negligence or failing to do the needful.
