Financial Controller (Finance)



JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction and supervision of the Managing Director, the Finance Manager shall assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, and payroll for the organization.

The overall purpose of the position is to take up responsibility for cash management and risk management in the company. You are accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, establish and maintain adequate financial management systems which provide accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results as well as ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.

You are also responsible for analyzing the economic stability of the company. You are required to assist the executive staff by providing essential financial reporting and guidance. In addition to those obligations, you are required to supervise assistant accounting employees in conjunction with the Senior Accountant and both of  you are generally responsible for the data produced by a company's accounting department.

You are required to work in collaboration with assistant accountants to ensure the report and record sales, prepare deposits to support various accounting projects and activities on a daily basis. You are required generally to oversee the correction, processing and reconciliation of a wide variety of accounting documents done by assistant accounts such as invoices, departmental billings, employee reimbursements, cash receipts, vendor statements, and vouchers; review and record financial information; prepare and process documents to disburse funds, make deposits and prepare reports; compile and review information for accuracy; and maintain records. You are further required to perform work by applying knowledge of accounting terminology and using spreadsheets and/or automated accounting systems. Maintain a positive attitude and you are expected to work towards the company’s vision and mission.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure you follow Company Policy.

  • Manages the installation and maintenance of new accounting, payroll, inventory, property, and other related procedures and controls.

  • Manages the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, petty cash, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, and operating expenses and records.

  • Supervises and participates in the preparation of various financial statements and reports.

  • Reviews financial statements with management personnel.

  • Manage the preparation of the organization's budget

  • Report to management on variances from the established budget,
    and the reasons for those variances

  • Preparing reports as rzequired by law, regulations or organization
    policies

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable laws and procedures.

  • Directs internal audits involving review of accounting and
    administrative controls.

  • Coordinates preparation of external audit materials and external
    financial reporting.

  • Engage in ongoing cost reduction analyses in all areas of the
    organization

  • You are required to ensure the integrity of accounting information by verify, data that is posted by the assistant accountants and reconcile transactions.

  • Ensure that you send all company debtors statements to remind them to pay within the allowed time frame

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department,

  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed

  • Ensure that all employees in the  accounting system maintains an orderly accounting filing system

  • Manage cash flow.

  • VAT reconciliation with assistant accountant

  • Sales reconciliation with assistant accountant for CESS payment.

Education, Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance or accounting, or equivalent business
    experience and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Certified Public Account (CPA) certification is required. Master’s
    Degree preferred.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget analysis,
    follow-up, and compliance & reporting.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, and have strong skills in communication and analysis.
  • Good written English skills, particularly report writing skills.
  • Strong ICT skills (Quickbooks, Tally, Microsoft Office Word, Excel).
  • Language requirements: Fluency in English & Swahili.
